What We Offer

DLM offers transitional housing for women and children for a period of up to 24 months including services such as:

  • mental health counseling,
  • both individual and group sessions,
  • care coordination,
  • career and financial planning,
  • computer and scholastic tutoring,
  • nutrition education,
  • sewing and cooking classes,
  • GED classes,
  • parenting and prenatal classes,
  • matching savings program,
  • transportation.

DLM's program uses a holistic approach in serving women and children. It places emphasis in strengthening women physically, spiritually and emotionally. It fosters self sufficiency, independence and development of the work-skills necessary to prevent homelessness. Through care-coordination, the women learn to navigate through the service delivery system, and to identify the resources necessary for them to prevent homelessness. In addition, as women and their children transition into their own permanent housing, DLM provides on-going support for them in the form of referrals and follow-up, self-development classes, support groups, and work skills. To further prevent homelessness during the transition period, DLM also provides emergency financial support, for up to three months a year to be used towards pay

FROM THE DIRECTOR

It was a busy month here at DLM, it seems things are occurring at break-neck speed daily and all for the betterment of the center. Most noteworthy, again we were able to gain the support of the city's community development department, in part, it seems due to a reduction in the federal funding of the community development block grant but also largely due to El Paso's coalition for the homeless reluctance to allow new agencies to be funded. We appealed the initial denial of our application without success but subsequently the city's steering committee overturned the denial and it seemed the center was going to be funded after all. At the final steering committee meeting late last month a vote of 4 to 3 to accept the budget initially proposed by the homeless agency collaborative passed effectively eliminating DLM from any city funding. We will continue to fulfill our goal to improve the infrastructure and diversification of funding. At present we have grant applications to state agencies as well as private foundations submitted for approval. Ongoing internal fundraising including sales of food items and Vision Magazine subscriptions continues. We are in the process of revamping, service planed accounting procedures to improve our system of accountability which now more than ever is an imperative to outside funding sources. We have increasingly been networking with various  coalition for the homeless agencies to improve our relationship with them, expand our referral source and improve communication for the betterment of continuity of care. And finally, we would like to thank the various donors that have helped center this past month;

  • Luis C.Talavera / Wells Fargo Bank, $3,00 for electric bills

  • State National Bank. $8,00 for miscellaneous bills

  • Steve Cooney / Loan Quest Mortgage

  • Minolta copy machine and toner

  • and our individual donors.

Thank you for your continued support.
